The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization has an excellent opportunity available for an energetic, skilled, dependable, self-motivated, and proactive Transportation Planner to join their team.
The Transportation Planner will collect demographic, social, economic, physical, fiscal, land use, travel, traffic, modal, and environmental data on a variety of transportation planning problems and issues using various research techniques, maps, GIS, aerial photography; and federal, state, and local agency data source to develop, analyze, evaluate, and participate in urban, rural, and regional transportation system development projects and plans.
The Transportation Planner must be able to work as a team member, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, handle a high volume of work in a busy and demanding environment, effectively prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously, and contribute to the success of those projects. Accuracy and timeliness in completing assignments is extremely important.
The Transportation Planner will prepare presentations, reports, charts, tables, maps, and other graphic materials as needed to contribute to the success of a project by using word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database analysis, or geographic information system software, the Internet, and electronic mail. The Transportation Planner also will perform related work, as required and as directed.

Graduation from an accredited college or university, with major course work in transportation, urban and/or regional planning, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required. A Master’s degree in transportation, urban and/or regional planning, or a closely related field, familiarity with travel demand modeling and/or GIS software, and possession of AICP accreditation is desirable.
The successful candidate will also possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, be extremely detail-oriented, have access to reliable transportation and possess a valid Iowa driver’s license.
